SELECTIVE SERVICE: All young men are required by law to register with selective service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Young men can submit their registration information when they turn 17 years and 3 months and it takes only a few minutes on the internet at www.ssa.gov or you can pick up a registration card at your local post office. When they turn 18, their registration will be processed automatically. An acknowledgment card will be mailed to them with their Selective Service number.

AXA Achievement Scholarship:

Scholarship winners demonstrate ambition and self-drive with outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities.

University of Kentucky Athletic Training Program:

Any senior student who holds a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA and may be interested in becoming a student athletic trainer.

SEKC Scholarship:

Amount: $500.00 

This scholarship is for one male and female student athlete graduating from a school which is a member of the SEKC conference.

Eligibility:

Must be a member of a team which competes for SEKC awards

GPA: 3.0 or higher

Not receiving a lot of other scholarships or financial aid.

Quality of short essay written by student

Louis Stout Scholarship:

Amount: $2,000.00

A one-time scholarship payable to an institution of higher learning will be awarded each year for the next four years. The scholarship is not renewable and is not endowed for expansion.

Minimum criteria is a 3.5 grade point average, involvement in a varsity sport or sport-activities, involvement in other school activities, a record of community service and a member of the 2017-2018 senior class.

Dr. Tae-Joon Seo Memorial Scholarship:

Amount: $1,000.00

Eligibility:

You must have proof of admission to an accredited technology school.

Documentation of financial need: complete copies of parents', spouse's, and their own most recent 1040, 1040A or 1040EX and W2 forms.

All nontaxable income (AFDC, ADC, Social Security Benefits, etc.) also must be documented by the appropriate agency.

Completed application form.

Two letters of recommendation from instructors who have taught the applicant within the last two years.

High school, Technology or College transcript.

The purpose of the Dr. Tae-joon Seo Memorial Scholarship program is intended to support individuals who live in South Eastern Kentucky and are perusing a career as a radiology technologist.

Scholarship Report for February 28, 2017

 

SELECTIVE SERVICE: All young men are required by law to register with selective service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Young men can submit their registration information when they turn 17 years and 3 months and it takes only a few minutes on the internet at www.ssa.gov or you can pick up a registration card at your local post office. When they turn 18, their registration will be processed automatically. An acknowledgment card will be mailed to them with their Selective Service number.

ACT Test Dates:

October 22 – Registration Deadline September 16

December 10 –Registration Deadline November 4

February 11- Registration Deadline January 13

April 8 – Registration Deadline March 3

Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens Scholarship:

Amount: $1000

Requirements:

Applicant must be high school student

Applicant must write an article of 600-1000 words on the topic "Why is it to stop cyberbullying?"

Deadline: February 28, 2017

Civil Engineering Scholarship Program:

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Western Kentucky, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky.

Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college.

Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

This scholarship could be worth over $51,000

Civil Engineering Technology Program:

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing an associate's degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community and Technical College in Lexington.

These students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

The qualified high school senior girl has to be politically active within the Republican Party.

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:

Amount: $1,000

Requirements: A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics

A passion for the nursing profession and the overall fields of healthcare.

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN, LVN, AND, and BSN programs.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarship:

Eligibility: The students must have either a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or a minimum 23 ACT score

Be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member and remain such while the scholarship is in force

Finish high school within the year they apply for the scholarship

For the Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship, applicant's parents must be actively engaged in production ag.

Cumberland Valley Electric:

One outstanding senior will be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.  The winner will receive $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester.

Guidelines:

Parent or guardian must be a member of Cumberland Valley Electric

Applicant must reside in Cumberland Valley Electric's service area

Applicant must be a graduating senior in good standing of one of the high schools in our service area.

Scholarship is NOT renewable

Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a bonafide college or university.

Applicant will demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need for the award.

Winners should be selected by April 14, 2017

Kay Campbell Nursing Scholarship:

Amount: $3,000.00

Eligibility:

You must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and have a minimum ACT score of 19

A completed application form, cover letter and resume submitted no later than March 1st.

Each applicant must provide a minimum of three references with at least one from a High School staff member.

State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship:

Amount: $2,500.00

Eligibility:

Must be a high school senior who will graduate at the end of the 2016-17 school year.

Plan to enroll in a full time undergraduate study at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocation/technical school for the entire 2017-18 academic year.

Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 to 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.

Be a US citizen.

Demonstrate financial need.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity "The Balanced Man Scholarship":

Amount:

There will be over $3,000.00 worth of scholarships given out this year.

Sigma Phi Epsilon makes a commitment to finding and developing young men who are dedicated to academics, moral fortitude, and community service through our cardinal principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.

Democratic Woman's Club of Kentucky Scholarship:

Requirements:

Be registered as a member of the Kentucky Democrat Party or submit a notarized statement that applicant will do so upon reaching voting age.

Both parents/guardians or the custodial parent/guardian in a single family household must be registered as a member of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Plan to attend an accredited Kentucky Institution of Higher Learning.

Have a minimum 3.0 GPA

Submit an official academic transcript.

Submit official ACT Score.

Submit a list of activities he/she has participated in on behalf of the Democratic Party.

Submit a list of activities he/she is involved with in their school and community.

Submit a list of Special Recognitions/honors received.

Whitaker Bank Scholarship (KHSAA):

Amount: $1,500.00

This scholarship is open to high school seniors that participate in the KHSAA sanctioned sports and sport-activities.

Winners will be recognized during the 2017 Boys' State Basketball Tournament, March 15-19 in Lexington.

Kentucky Manufactured Housing Scholarship:

Amount: $1,000.00

Students must live in modular, manufactured, or mobile homes.  This award is available for university, college, technical, or vocational programs.

Amount: $1,500

Eligibility Requirements:

Completed and signed application form, including the essay (typed)

Member of the UNITE club, or a former camper and/or Team Leader of Camp UNITE

Attends school in on of the 32 counties served by Operation UNITE

GPA of 2.75 unweighted or 3.75 weighted

Two letters of recommendation: one from school employee and one from community member (no family members)
