Scholarship Report for January 11, 2017

SELECTIVE SERVICE: All young men are required by law to register with selective service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Young men can submit their registration information when they turn 17 years and 3 months and it takes only a few minutes on the internet at www.ssa.gov or you can pick up a registration card at your local post office. When they turn 18, their registration will be processed automatically. An acknowledgment card will be mailed to them with their Selective Service number.

Are you a young entrepreneur? Graduating high school seniors who operate their own business are eligible to receive a 2017 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award.

Cyberbullying Prevention for Teens Scholarship:

Amount: $1000

Requirements:

Applicant must be high school student

Applicant must write an article of 600-1000 words on the topic "Why is it to stop cyberbullying?"

Deadline: February 28, 2017

Civil Engineering Scholarship Program:

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Western Kentucky, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky.

Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college.

Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

This scholarship could be worth over $51,000

Civil Engineering Technology Program:

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing an associate's degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community and Technical College in Lexington.

These students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

Kentucky Federation of Republic Women:

Amount: $1,000.00

The qualified high school senior girl has to be politically active within the Republican Party.

Deadline: April 1, 2017 (must be postmarked by this day)

Aspiring Nurse Scholarship:

Amount: $1,000

Requirements: A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics

A passion for the nursing profession and the overall fields of healthcare.

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN, LVN, AND, and BSN programs.

Deadline: June 30, 2017

Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarship:

Eligibility: The students must have either a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or a minimum 23 ACT score

Be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member and remain such while the scholarship is in force

Finish high school within the year they apply for the scholarship

For the Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship, applicant's parents must be actively engaged in production ag.

Kentucky Farm Bureau State & District Employees

Kimberly Merritt "Achieve Your Dreams Scholarship"

Amount: $500.00

Cumberland Valley Electric:

One outstanding senior will be awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.  The winner will receive $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester.

Guidelines:

Parent or guardian must be a member of Cumberland Valley Electric

Applicant must reside in Cumberland Valley Electric's service area

Applicant must be a graduating senior in good standing of one of the high schools in our service area.

Scholarship is NOT renewable

Applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a bonafide college or university.

Applicant will demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need for the award.

Winners should be selected by April 14, 2017

**Scholarship will be paid directly to the college or university for tuition only. **
