Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Scholarships: 


If you are interested in Engineering, Math, CAD, Building Structures, and Roadways? The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers two scholarship programs geared toward civil engineering. The scholarships provide money for college, paid summer employment while in school, and full-time employment after college graduation.

The Civil Engineering Scholarship Program:

This is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Western Kentucky, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky. Students can also take classes at other Kentucky state colleges/universities, with approved programs, before transferring to WKU, UofL, or UK. Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college. College freshmen and sophomores currently receive $5750 a semester to apply towards tuition, books, etc. Juniors and seniors receive $6150 a semester. Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend. This scholarship can be worth over $47,000

 

The Civil Engineering Technology Program:

This is for students interested in pursuing an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community and Technical College in Lexington. (We are currently working on developments to expand this program to Western Kentucky.) Candidates must meet the entrance qualifications for the college and maintain a GPA of 2.5. Students receive $2750 a semester, and are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation

Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarship: 


The Kentucky Farm Bureau Education Foundation will award 86 county and state college scholarships to high school seniors for the current school year. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, housing, books and other educational expenses. Payments will be made directly to the college or university of your choice.

To apply for the scholarships, a student must have either a minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or a minimum 23 ACT score. Winners will notified by May 15th 2015

Bezos Scholars Program

​Bezos Scholarship Program @ the Aspen Institute 


Each year, we select 30 HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS from across the US and Africa. Successful candidates are ambitious students who bring energy, excellence and a desire to create positive change in their community. The program kicks off with an all_expenses_paid scholarship to the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, CO (June 27th-July 3rd 2015) for selected students and an educator from his or her school. It is a power-packed week of seminars and informal meetings with global leaders and informal meetings with global leaders, acclaimed thinkers and social entrepreneurs-from  retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and Columnist David Brooks among many others. In short, it is an incredible experience for both students and educators.

About CHA:

Murray State University is pleased to announce that next summer’s Commonwealth Honors Academy will be held June 6th-June 27th. Last summer, the Academy brought together 94 gifted high school juniors from throughout Murray State’s service region for three weeks in an interdisciplinary living-learning environment. As a reminder, upon the completion of the Academy, students will:

1.     Receive six hours of university studies credit

2.     Have the opportunity to take six additional hours of tuition-free university courses at Murray State University during their senior year.

3.     Be awarded a four-year $2,000 per year housing scholarship to Murray State University.

4.     The only cost is a $195 tuition-processing fee. (fee waived for students receiving free or reduced student lunch, or ACT Free Waiver)

Please help the CHA Leadership Team by notifying juniors who might be qualified for this selective program. In order to qualify for the academy, students must have:

1.     Completed the junior year of high school

2.     A composite ACT of approximately 25 and a 3.5 GPA on the 4.0 scale

3.     Other credentials, such as community involvement, class rank, and teacher recommendations are taken into consideration in the selection process.

UK PEPP Scholars Summer Program

                     UK PEPP Scholars Summer Program Dates:   JUNE 10 - JULY 11, 2015                                                            


Overview

The primary focus of the UK PEPP Scholars Summer Program is college preparation and clinical / hospital experiences in Medicine and Dentistry.  UK PEPP Scholars will experience college dormitory life and participate in a variety of activities at the UK Chandler Medical Center, the UK Hospital, the UK College of Medicine, and the UK College of Dentistry.  Health-related seminars, as well as staff support regarding the admissions process for medical and dental school, are important components of PEPP.

 

University of Kentucky PEPP Scholars will study chemistry and biology. They will have rotations in the Labor and Delivery and Operating Room departments at the UK Medical Center.  Seminar topics include:  Medical Admissions and Dental Admissions, Osteopathic Medicine, Autopsy/Pathology, Medical Case Studies, Cancer, Organ Transplants, Genetic Diseases and Defects, Hypnosis, Massage Therapy, Compassion, Medical Ethics, HIV/AIDS, People with Disabilities, Alzheimer's Disease, and Rural Practice. Clinical site visits and lab experiences include the UK College of Medicine Human Gross Anatomy Lab (cadaver lab), the UK Pathology Lab, Dental Labs, a Psychiatric Hospital, a Children's Hospital, and Camps for Children with Special Needs.   


Selection

 The Selection Committee will carefully review the written personal statement, letter of recommendation, application, transcripts, and standardized test scores when determining the selection of participants. Applicants will be notified of their status around April 1.        A limited number of alternates will also be selected and possibly be invited to participate as late as June. Each student will receive a small stipend to assist with the cost of meals.  Campus dormitory housing is provided.  All participants are required to live in the UK PEPP residence hall and attend all program activities, including occasional weekend and evening activities. 

                   PEPP IS LIMITED TO STUDENTS INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PHYSICIAN OR A DENTIST. 



                                                   Cost of Participation

Due to the current state budget shortfall, PEPP has had to absorb multiple budget cuts during the past two years and into the current biennium.  In order to continue to administer PEPP without seriously compromising the program, the Council on Postsecondary Education, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Louisville are in agreement that each participant shall contribute a fair portion of the cost of administering the program.  The PEPP fee will be based on family annual income (after all allowable deductions) as reported on the family's most recent IRS Form 1040 (calendar year 2013).   Participants shall be required to pay a fee according to the following PEPP FEE SCHEDULE:

Your PEPP Application Must Be Received at the PEPP Office by February 4, 2015 and Must Include:

 1.  Personal Statement (Essay)

2.  Sealed Letter of Recommendation from a Science or Math Teacher

(The Letter of Recommendation must be confidential and sealed and signed by the teacher on the seal of the envelope.                                                                                                                                                                                             This letter should include an assessment of the applicant's interpersonal skills, reliability, perseverance, communication skills, self-confidence, empathy/consideration of others, ability to interact and work with others, maturity and judgment, strengths/weaknesses, potential to set and achieve goals, and motivation for a career in medicine or dentistry.)

3.  Official High School Transcript (Transcript must show all courses and grades from Grade 9 through December 2014 of Grade 12)

4.  A List of Your Classes You Are (or will be) Enrolled In for the Spring 2015 Term  (either shown on your transcript or on a separate list)   

5.  UK PEPP Scholars Application  (Complete all sections.)

6.  Copies of your ACT (and/or SAT Scores if you have taken the SAT)  (Unofficial copies from your school are acceptable.)

7.  Your Photograph (required)  (NOTE:  Your application will be considered incomplete if you do not include your photograph.)

This is a reminder of the Tri-County Elks Scholarship deadline.  Scholarships will be a $250 for a male and female and each of these will move on to the state level for a chance at $5000.  The deadline is December 5th.  All applications must be turned in or mailed to the lodge at:       Tri-County Elks Lodge

Saturday December 6th 2014 is our next incoming student audition date. At this audition, high school seniors and transfer students are considered for the BFA degree tracks in the discipline of theatre & Dance as well as for freshmen-only theatre scholarships. Auditions/interviews will begin at 10:00 a.m.

 

Auditions and interviews for the BFA program include the following degree tracks:

Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance, Playwriting, Stage Management, Design or Technology, and Rock and roll/concert Technology.

Interviews are by Appointment ONLY.

Youth Salute Announcement

​Youth Salute: 


Corbin High School will be participating in the 1st annual Youth Salute.  The purpose of this program is to honor high school juniors who maintain a high scholastic average and have demonstrated leadership ability.  Students will be photographed and portraits will be on display in area shopping centers and our high school.  The students will also be saluted in the local newspaper,  over local radio stations, and an awards ceremony.  Students will also have the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Workshop to compete for scholarships and other awards. 

Criteria

-Be a junior with gpa of 3.0

-Have held two leadership roles to which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations. 


Interested students should pick up an application in the guidance office and return by November 17.

2015 United States Senate Youth Program

The William Randolph Hearst Foundation funds this scholarship program, and the United States Senate endorses it. It is coordinated by the Kentucky Department of Education. Two Kentucky student leaders will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C., and a $5,000 college scholarship. Student participation in the national program in Washington, D.C., (scheduled for March 8-15 2015)



Any high school junior or senior student is eligible for the program provided he or she has not previously been a delegate to the program, and is currently serving in an ELECTED capacity in one of the following student government, civic or education organizations: 1. student body president, vice president, secretary or treasurer; 2. class president, vice president, secretary or treasurer' 3. student council representative; 4. student representative to district, regional, or stat-level civic or education organization.



There are two information forms contained in the packet; one to be completed by the counselor or principal, and one to be completed by the student and parents/guardians. Neatness is imperative. Any item that cannot be read will not be scored.

Seniors interested in becoming a student athletic trainer at the University of Kentucky:

1.  The first scholarship is "Aspiring Fashion Professional" Scholarship.  This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link http://www.fashion-schools.org/ and find the scholarship located at the bottom of the page and click on it.  
2.  The 2nd Scholarship is the "Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program. This is the 4th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. We are offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship.  This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Chu Memorial Scholarship Fund

Students pursuing a career in allied health should apply for the Chu Memorial Scholarship Fund. the fund can provide up to $1,000.00 in financial aid to eligible students. 


In order to qualify, applicants must be from Southern and Eastern Kentucky, be enrolled full-time in an allied health program, have a minimum of 2.5 GPA at the time of application, and have financial need that is unmet by other sources.
